Bordeaux Vinhandel AS (BVAS) is a Norwegian registered importer and wholesaler of wine, specializing in fine wine from Bordeaux, France. The process of becoming a registered importer and wholesaler of wine in Norway is strict and includes a full government review of the company's Board of Directors, management, storage facilities and operating modes.
Since Norway imposes a state monopoly for retail selling of wine and liquor, our one and only customer in the public market is the state retail monopoly Vinmonopolet AS which has more than 250 public outlets throughout the country and a web shop on its home pages. The terms and conditions for being a registered importer and wholesaler requires that we can deliver all listed wines to all public outlets in the country on short notice.
However, licensed bars and restaurants constitutes an open market to which we as a registered importer can sell directly.
BVAS was established in October 2007 and has since then built a portfolio of Grand Cru Bordeaux wine available from our Oslo based storage facilities.
Norwegian Law also forbid public marketing of alcoholic beverages, but news media and non-profit organisations are, as a consequence of the general Freedom of Speech, allowed to write about it. Importers are also allowed to do marketing towards management and professionals in licensed bars and restaurants.
The retail monopoly organize tastings every second month in which their shop assistants can meet with the wholesalers and taste their wines. Non-profit organisations can also organise public wine tastings with the help of importers and together with Vinforum.no and Norwegain Association of Wine Clubs we have set up an annual Bordeaux Grand Cru and En Primeur tasting in the fabulous Oslo Opera House visited by close to one thousand tasters in August each year.
Øystein Martinsen is one of the founders and the Managing Director of BVAS and is the licensed importer. Øystein has a Masters degree in Biophysics and a Bachelor in Private Norwegian Law.
